Memorial Event Planning

  • Much like a wedding or event planner, I work closely with individuals and families to envision, design, and coordinate memorial gatherings that are intentional, seamless, and deeply reflective of the person being honored. Whether planning a traditional memorial, a celebration of life, or a nontraditional remembrance event, I help shape every detail so the gathering feels meaningful, cohesive, and true to its purpose. This service is intended for memorial services outside of the funeral home.

My role is to bring structure and calm to an emotionally complex time—so families can focus on connection rather than coordination. Together, we create a gathering that feels thoughtful, well-executed, and aligned with the values and personality of the deceased individual.

  • $900-$3,500 (Reach out for a custom quote)

We'll begin with a phone or video call to cover the basics and answer any questions.

From there, we'll meet — in person or virtually — to explore the life and values of the person being honored, and to shape a memorial that reflects their legacy.

From there, I'll carry the logistics forward, with your input guiding the way.

    Memorial planning includes:

    • Venue sourcing and setup guidance

    • Vendor coordination and communication

    • Event flow and timeline creation

    • Décor and ambiance design

    • Tribute tables and legacy displays

    • Catering and hospitality details

    • Audio/visual support for music, slideshows, or video tributes

    • Guest logistics and communication

    • Printed materials and program development

    • Day-of coordination and on-site support

  • A living wake is a celebration of life held while the person being honored is still here to experience it. These gatherings can be joyful, reflective, creative, or entirely unconventional — designed around a life still being lived.

I work directly with the individual alongside their loved ones to create an event that feels genuinely true to who they are. Done well, a living wake offers something rare: deep connection and meaning-making while there is still time to share in it.

  • We'll begin with a phone or video call to answer questions and walk through the process.

From there, we'll meet — in person or virtually — to explore what this event should look and feel like. What music sets the tone? What's the atmosphere? Will there be speeches, a dress code, a signature drink? There is no template for a living wake, and the planning process itself can be surprisingly cathartic — even joyful.

I'll then carry the logistics forward, keeping everyone informed and involved without overwhelming anyone with the details.

  • "The level of commitment and loving care that DeDe provides for my husband with advanced dementia, as well as her support of my need for a caring ear has been invaluable! I always know that he is safe and his needs are met whenever she is with him, allowing me peace of mind."

    -Vicki, veteran and retired nurse

  • "DeDe has made such a huge impact on our patients and their families during their end-of-life hospice journey with us. She goes above and beyond to care for our patient’s spiritual and emotional needs by offering a comforting presence and helping families along the way with whatever needs they might have."

-Holly Salas, Volunteer Coordinator, Emmanuel Hospice

  • "DeDe's grounded presence and calm leadership put me at ease during the ceremony she officiated for me. The ceremony itself was crafted beautifully and with careful attention to detail, and everyone in attendance was really moved by how personal and intentional it was. "
